Major Medical Insurance Plans and Quotes

Major Medical Insurance is a type of health care coverage that gives benefits for the majority of medical expenses.  Major medical insurance covers a broad range of medical expenses - which includes expenses incurred both in and out of the hospital.  This often includes things such as: hospital room costs, blood tests, x-rays, and other diagnostic exams, surgeon costs, etc.  Out of hospital coverage can include doctor office visits, prescription drug costs, and wellness exams.

There are two types of major medical insurance, comprehensive major medical insurance, where traditional basic coverage and basically any type of medical expense are combined into a single complete policy, and supplemental major medical insurance, where you begin with a traditional basic policy which pays first and then major medical coverage is added to cover the rest of the expenses not covered by the traditional basic policy.
While most major medical plans provide coverage (often in the form of reduced costs for medical care) immediately, they often don’t begin to pay your medical expenses until your deductible is met.  The deductible is the amount that you pay before the insurance company starts to pay part of all of your medical expenses.  A lower deductible amount generally means your premium will be larger.  So you will want to find a balance that works for you.  Once you have met your deductible, the insurance company will pay a percentage of your medical expenses (co-insurance).  In some policies there is a maximum out of pocket which means that once you have paid a set amount, you insurance company will pick up 100% of the rest of your medical costs.  Be careful, some policies will offer to pay a greater portion of your co-insurance but there will be no maximum out of pocket costs. So while you may only pay 20% of your medical bills, if medical costs run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, you will still pay $40,000.
Many times it can be helpful to discuss these matters with a reliable broker who can help you understand the benefits of different polices and compare and contrast them to help you find the best policy for your situation.
